Sublimation at
The Print Shop

What is Sublimation?

Sublimation is a specialised printing process where high-heat inks are permanently fused directly into the garment fabric. Unlike traditional screen printing or vinyl transfers, sublimation prints will not fade, peel, or crack over time. Sublimation printing is a great choice if you are after vivid colours with the added benefit of full garment printing and customisation.

In-store production

We print, cut, and sew your garment right here in store. Handling everything locally under one roof gives us total control over the print quality and the production pipeline.

Amazing designs

When it comes to sublimation, the only limit is your imagination. We can seamlessly blend colours, create custom patterns, or reproduce high resolution images. You can create something entirely unique.

Sublimation FAQs

Q: Will the design ever peel off?

A: Never! Unlike screen printing or vinyl transfer, sublimation dyes the fabric itself. Your logos, names, and numbers will never crack, peel, or fade for the life of the garment.

Q: What kind of fabric do you use?

A: We use high-performance, moisture-wicking polyester, which is able to absorb the sublimation inks most effectively. It’s lightweight, comfortable and designed specifically for elite sports and active movement. Come down to our Boronia Showroom to check out the range of sublimation fabrics available.

Q: How long will my order take?

A: Once you approve your mock up and complete payment, production typically takes 2-3 weeks. (Pro-tip: plan ahead for your season start!). We manage the entire process of producing your garment right here on site, from design to printing then to final production.

Q: Does The Print Shop cater for sports clubs or other organisations?

A: Yes, we do. Check out our Club Partnership Program for access to priority ordering, exclusive member pricing and easy online ordering. Best of all, it’s free to join!

Q: What if I just need one more garment later?

A: No problem! We have no minimum orders for re-orders, and any design or enhancement fees are usually a once off charge if there are no changes to the design.

Q: Can I have different names and numbers on every shirt?

A: Yes! That is the beauty of sublimation. Individual player names and numbers are included in the process at no additional charge. Just provide us with a spreadsheet or table of names and sizes and we will make it happen.

Q: What kind of files do I need for my logos?

A: To get the sharpest finish, we prefer vector files (PDF, EPS, or Adobe Illustrator), or high quality images like JPG and PNG. If you only have a low-res image files don't worry, our design team can help to get your design print-ready. Speak to our friendly team about what we can offer and if you need assistance with your design requirements.

Q: I have created a design using AI, can you make it?

A: Yes, we love creating truly unique designs and we can take your digital vision and make it a reality. Get in touch with our friendly team about how we can bring your ideas to life. There may be a design set up fee involved to get your artwork print-ready, but this is usually a once off charge and the cost will depend on the complexity of your design.

Q: Is there a limit to how many colours I can use?

A: There is no limit! Whether you want two colours or 200, the price stays the same. Sublimation allows for complex gradients, patterns, and unlimited sponsor logos without extra "per-colour" setup fees.

Q: How do I wash my custom gear?

A: Sublimated garments are easy to look after and are designed to be washed and worn over and over again. To keep your garments looking like new, we recommend a cold machine wash, no bleach and no tumble drying. Because the dye is "locked" into the fabric, it won't bleed onto your other clothes in the wash.

Q: Will I get to see what my design looks like before it’s made?

Yes, no matter how you place your order, we always supply a digital design mock up of your design so you will see what it’s going to look like before sending your garments into production.

Q: Can I provide my own "blank" shirts for you to print on?

A: No. Because we print the design onto the fabric before it is sewn together to ensure "edge-to-edge" coverage, we must use our own specialised sublimation fabric. If you’re interested in using pre-made garments, have a look at our embroidery, direct transfers or direct to garment print services, which are also a great alternative.

Q: I’m not sure what I want, can you help with design ideas?

A: Yes, if you’re local, come and check out our Boronia showroom which is full of inspiration. We are happy to guide you and help choose colours, styles and designs, plus our on-site design team can help with creating a high-quality look to best suit your needs.

Q: I’d like to go ahead: how can I order?

A: Get in touch with our friendly team to get the ball rolling on your order or check out our Order Guide, which explains how we do things. We have a straight-forward ordering process: once you have confirmed your order (including garment styles, quantities, sizes and design ideas) we will generate an invoice for you. Once your invoice is paid, we will get to work on your digital design mock up for final approval. Once we’ve received approval we can get to work producing your garments. Our typical turnaround time is 2-3 weeks from final approval.

Q: Can I change my order once I’ve paid?

A: We recommend taking the time to get your styles, sizes and quantities finalised before we create your invoice, as we may not be able to make amendments once production has begun. If you’d like to add extra garments to your order that’s usually no problem, as we have no minimum orders, and our design/enhancement fees are usually once off charges. We will simply create a separate invoice for any new garments.

Q: Why should I choose the The Print Shop?

A: We have been in the business of printing and creating apparel for 50 years and are experts in quality. We make all our garments right here on site and specialise in custom designs for a truly unique look. We also have no minimum orders.
