Embroidery FAQs
Q: Is there a minimum order for embroidery?
A: We do not have a strict minimum order for embroidery. However, because every new logo requires a digitisation and machine setup process, ordering a single item can be relatively expensive. Most of our customers find that ordering at least 5 to 10 items makes the setup cost much more economical.
Q: Can I mix and match different methods in one order?
A: Absolutely. It is very common to have an embroidered logo on the front chest of a polo for a professional look, and a large digital transfer print on the back for maximum visibility.
Q: Can I provide my own clothes for you to embroider?
A: While we prefer to use our trusted suppliers to guarantee the best results, we can embroider on garments you provide. Please be aware that there is always a small element of risk with high speed industrial machinery. While rare, if a machine error occurs on a supplied garment, we are unable to replace the item. This includes a ‘bring your own garment’ fee per item.
Q: Why can my logo not have tiny text?
A: Thread has a physical thickness, and needles require a certain amount of space to move. If text is smaller than 5mm in height, the needle holes and thread density can cause the letters to close up, resulting in an unreadable “blob” rather than crisp text. Our team are happy to advise about the appropriate size of your design for the best results.
Q: What is 3D Puff embroidery?
A: 3D Puff is a technique where a piece of foam is placed under the stitching to lift the thread, creating a bold, three-dimensional effect. This is most commonly seen on the front of high quality baseball caps and snapbacks. It works best with simple, bold shapes rather than intricate details.
Q: There is a ring mark around my logo, why has happened?
A: This is known as a “hoop mark.” To embroider a garment, we must pull the fabric tight between two rings (a hoop). On certain fabrics, the pressure can leave a temporary indentation. These marks are not permanent and will disappear completely after the first wash or a light steam.
Q: What is the white material on the inside of my shirt?
A: That is called “stabiliser” or “backing.” It is a specialised material placed behind the fabric to support the thousands of stitches in your logo. It prevents the fabric from puckering or tearing and ensures the embroidery stays crisp for the life of the garment.
